Fucoxanthin Extract Instruction
◆ Fucoxanthin is a natural carotenoid extracted from edible brown algae, such as wakame kelp and Sargassum. It is an oxygenated derivative of carotenoids, which is a lutein in carotenoids, a fat-soluble pigment, a polar carotenoid. It via its metabolites, seems to be stored in fat cells for a prolonged period of time and can induce fat loss while inhibiting fat cell differentiation and proliferation.
◆ At present, various biological activities of fucoidan have been confirmed, including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, and fat reduction effects.

Physical properties
◆ It is an airless, odorless, orange-red or reddish-brown powdery substance that is the main carotenoid component that makes brown algae brown and diatoms appear golden brown. The beta-carotene has a molecular formula of C42H58O6, molecular weight of 658.906, density of 1.09, and melting point of 166-169 °C.
◆ It is a fat-soluble pigment, insoluble in water, and easily soluble in certain organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, n-hexane and chloroform.

Fucoxanthin Extract Stability
◆ Hizikia fusifarme extract is photolabile. At room temperature, under the influence of air, the light intensity between 300-2000 lux will cause the degradation of all-trans, 13Z- and 13Z'-fucoxanthin, and promote the formation of 9'Z-fucoxanthin. This is indicating that light can cause isomerization of fucoxanthin, which induces transformation of fucoxanthin from 13Z- and 13Z'- to all-trans, and then from all-trans to 9'Z-structure.
◆ Hizikia fusifarme extract is thermally unstable. Studies have shown that it will undergo different degrees of degradation between 25-100 °C tested, and its degradation rate increases with increasing temperature. It can be stabilized at 80-100 ° C for 1 h.
Generally, this product has a high stability between 40 and 70 °C. In addition, it is easily destroyed under strong acid and alkali conditions, and its stability is increased under weak acid and low light conditions.
◆ Higher concentrations of ascorbic acid can synergistically promote the stability of hizikia fusifarme extract. Furthermore, fucoxanthin is also sensitive to air, and when exposed to air, it significantly promotes the oxidative decomposition of its isomers, which on the other hand indicates that Hizikia fusifarme extract has a certain degree of reducibility.

Recommend dosage of Fucoxanthin Extract
◆ A daily dosage of 2.4-8mg beta-carotene has shown benefit in some human studies over a prolonged period of time, and while within this range the benefits are dose-dependent higher doses have not been tested sufficiently.
◆ If buying a seaweed standardized for fucoxanthin, look for the extract percentage and then backtrack. Buying an undaria pinnafitida supplement that is 1% fucoidan by weight would require 240-800mg of the supplement to get 2.4-8mg fucoxanthin.
