Benfits of Cinnamon bark extract polyphenols proanthocyanidins

Cinnamon bark extract polyphenols have significant effects of lowering blood sugar, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, neuroprotection and immunosuppression. Cinnamon polyphenols, also known as tannins or tannins, are mainly proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins are polyphenolic compounds with a special molecular structure, named after the production of anthocyanins under the treatment of hot acid-alcohol, also known as proanthocyanidin, PA, which is structurally based on flavan-3-ol. 1 Biological activity of proanthocyanidins in cinnamon

1.1 Antioxidant and anti-angiogenic activity PC-based components have a strong antioxidant capacity due to their multi-electron hydroxyl moiety in the molecular structure, which can effectively remove free radicals in human body and is considered to be a low-toxic and high-efficiency natural antioxidant.

1.2 Hypoglycemic activity

A-type OPC extract in cinnamon can increase insulin sensitivity and regulate blood sugar activity. Animal experiments have shown that the two types of OPC components present in cassia have significant hypoglycemic effects.

1.3 Anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities

Clinically, it has been reported that the prescription containing cinnamon has a good effect on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Studies have shown that the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of cinnamon are related to the PC-like components contained therein.

1.4 Anticancer activity

Cinnamon extract can inhibit the expression of Nrf 2 factor (one of the important regulators of cell defense chemistry/oxidative stress) and enhance the sensitivity of lung cancer A549 cells to the cytotoxic effects of anticancer drugs.

1.5 Other biological activities

PC-like components in cassia can inhibit the aggregation of Tau protein and the formation of fibers, and improve Alzheimer's disease. The PC component of cassia also has the function of protecting nerve cells. The antibacterial activity of the cinnamon extract was studied in vitro. The results showed that the OPC component showed obvious antibacterial activity against five common foodborne pathogens and fecal indicator bacteria.
